H.E. Suliman A. Al-Gwaiz
Currently, the Governor of the General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI) since 4/2013. Gosi is the government entity responsible for retirement and other social insurance operations with a mandate covering non-government employees in Saudi Arabia. It presently has around 9 million subscribers, with 78% being expatriate workers.
Prior to this role, he joined Riyad Bank in 9/1992 as Head of Central Region, which is the largest of the three geographical regions. Then he took responsibility for country-wide corporate and retail banking in 4/1994. In 2/2002 he was promoted to the position of Deputy Chief Executive Officer with responsibilities covering corporate, retail, treasury and investment banking activities. His role also had responsibility for planning and business strategy. He remained in this position until he was asked by the government to assume the position of GOSI Governor in 4/2013.
During his early banking career, he joined Saudi American Bank (then Citibank affiliate in Saudi Arabia) as Management Trainee in the Operation Division in 9/1981 and after two years in the Treasury and Investment back office, he moved to manage the cash and small business operation and then the Corporate Banking operation. In 6/1986, he moved to head the Public Sector business and then the Trading Division within Corporate Banking until 9/1992.
He attended University of Portland in Oregon, USA, and graduated with a Bachelor?s Degree in 3/1981. Also attended the six-month Citibank Operations Management Program in 10/1982 in Athens and Six-month Citicorp Corporate Finance Program in 10/1989 in New York.
